Beside you

We sat across from your sister,
Speaking of things I had to endure,
My eyes traced the walls for answers,
Forgetting I was sitting right next to you.

I rubbed my hands together,
And my leg began to shake.
Ears grew deaf, eyes ran to the door.
My chest began to ache.

Then under the table, I felt,
The warmth of your hand on my thigh.
My restless leg stopped still,
And I looked into your eyes.

I leaned into the weight of your touch,
The tension melts away.
You warm my heart,
You take my breath away.

Under the table,
I took your hand in mine.
I smiled back at your sister,
Knowing everything was fine.
