Movie Virginity

The trailer for Dune 3 has got me so pumped for the movie. I’ve had that war chant playing in my head nonstop since I watched it.

My usual protocol for an upcoming movie is simple: watch the first trailer, then stay off everything - posts, marketing, all of it, until I watch the movie in theatres.
Can’t take the risk these days. Why would you preemptively ruin your own movie by giving away plot points? You’re sabotaging it while promoting it, dumbass. Or worse, breaking the trust of an audience that actually wants to see it by adding fake scenes. Nah, that’s not for me. Just sit down, bro. Don’t play yourself. You have me. I am seated.
For most movies, the hype from that first trailer lasts all the way till I watch it in theatres.

But then comes the accompanying promotion - the interviews with actors. I miss when actors had private lives and didn’t go on every podcast to tell the world who they really are. Like no, I don’t want to know how much of a fun gal you are, Jennifer Lawrence, while I sit through your postpartum depression movie. I don’t want to know anything about you. I want to see the characters you transform into.

I have a screen with me at all times, and it’s a constant effort to stay away from marketing and advertising. I don’t want the spoilers, the theories, or the opinions of others. I just want my reaction to the art I’m witnessing. I want that deep connection to the film be soley mine.
I just want to protect my movie-virginity. The first trailer is make or break. If you’ve sold me on the movie after that, the rest is just overplaying your hand.
