Spiritual Drive-By
*tap tap* Is this thing on?
Have you ever noticed how some people pass by temples? They walk by, heads snap to a turn, eyes on the idol from afar, fingertips move either side of the chest, then to the forehead, then maybe a kiss to the fingers. All without breaking stride, like a marching unit passing the dais.
Or perhaps you have an appointment to get to and you’re in a real hurry. You would just stroll on by, with your palm to your chest, and solemnly close your eyes for a second, praying to God, you don’t bump into anything while you pray to God. Like some sort of spiritual drive by.
What baffles me the most are the ones who will pause, take a moment, right there on the street, take their footwear off, and bring their hands together in prayer. Wouldn’t you be more comfortable inside the temple sir? Don’t you think The Almighty deserves better?
Maybe there are imperceptible circumstances for your current lackadaisical devotion. At least you aren’t driving a vehicle while you place your order for the Blessing Happy Meal, at your makeshift temple drive thru window, endangering the lives of others on the street.
Because I’m afraid, God ain’t lovin’ it.
